Presidential Search Update - September 22, 2018

Dear Gettysburg College community:

On behalf of the Presidential Search Committee (PSC), we hope that these waning days of summer have you excited about a wonderful autumn. It has always been one of the most beautiful times of year on our campus! We are equally excited to share with you this update about the search for our 15th President.

We remain on schedule since our last update to the College community. Over the summer, the PSC, in partnership with Russell Reynolds, have been gathering input on the expectations for our next President. Notable activities during this phase have included:

  • Three days of on-campus “listening” forums with faculty, students, staff, and administration;
  • By-invitation forums with faculty leaders, town leaders, and leaders of on-campus student groups;
  • Teleconference forums with members of the Board of Trustees and Trustee Emeriti;
  • An on-line survey in which almost 2,500 members of the college community commented on top priorities for our next President as well as highly desirable prior experiences and skills/attributes.

In sum, the listening phase has yielded a rich backdrop of ideas and views about what we seek for our 15th President. This feedback, in combination with the deliberations of the PSC, the counsel of Russell Reynolds, and the expertise of the College’s Communications and Marketing
unit, has resulted in the Presidential Search Prospectus. This document provides a thorough orientation to Gettysburg College and a description of the role of our 15th President. View the Prospectus.

As we move from the “listening” phase to the recruiting and interview phase, the PSC will continue to provide additional updates. As always, thank you for your support and interest in this search.

Best regards,
Charlie Scott
