The Gettysburg College Board of Trustees is undertaking a global search to select our 15th president, to succeed Dr. Janet Morgan Riggs who will retire following the 2018-19 academic year. To complete this important work, the Board has appointed a Presidential Search Committee (PSC).

The following charge outlines our expectations and the authorities granted to the Committee:

  1. The search committee will select a professional search firm that can assist in developing a qualified group of candidates.
  2. The search committee will adopt a timetable for the search that will conclude with a target starting date for the new president of June 1, 2019.
  3. The search committee will work with College and outside resources to develop a search prospectus to guide and support the search and selection process.
  4. The search committee will, using a variety of means, engage as much of the College community (alumni, administration, faculty, parents, students, support staff, and friends of the College) as possible.
  5. The search committee will lead the global search for highly qualified candidates.
  6. The search committee will provide periodic reports to the Board of Trustees and the entire College community about the progress of the search.
  7. The search committee will be responsible for maintaining strict confidentiality by all parties engaged in the search and selection process.
  8. The search committee will recommend one candidate for presidency to the Board of Trustees, which holds the final responsibility to select and appoint the president.
  9. The search committee will produce a recommended transition plan to help insure successful onboarding and integration of the new president.
